It was a rainy, spring Sunday afternoon. Let me make myself clear. This rain was the opposite of a drizzle, a mist, a shower or a gentle pitter patter on the roof. It was more like there was a cloudburst in the heavens, sending torrents of wet stuff in heavy splotches of water drops the size of peas. The water gushing through our creek was powerful in its furious hurry to move along down the hill into the lowest parts of the dense woods.
But this was the day the Lord had made, and since it was spring and we were feeling the barbeque vibes, we invited some families and we grilled Italian sausages. My husband was soaked but the food was yummy and tasted like summer.
Along with the sausages we made Amish Noodles, (recipe coming soon), grilled bacon-wrapped asparagus, salad, and fruit and dip. I decided to make the fruit dip in a healthy version so I could eat it guilt free and as much of it as I wanted. I love food and I’m not ashamed to say it! Raise your hand if you just agreed with me and your mouth began salivating! 🙂
I used the recipe in the Lizbet Cookbook on page 12 and THM-ified-ish it. That’s not a word but there it is. I never call my dishes THM approved because I’m not technical enough to count carbs and intense, complicated stuff like that! I just know what works for me and keeps me from gaining unnecessary weight.
This recipe will serve 10-15 people. For the fruit, I used 1 cantaloupe, 1/2 pineapple, and 1 pound strawberries. But you, of course, can use whatever you dandy well please so long as it tastes of fresh summer goodness and sunshine!
Here is how I did this. It is spectacular and does NOT taste the least bit healthy! It resembles the flavor of a big, fat cheat!
But first, a picture of my very used Lizbet Cookbook.
You may wonder what brown sugar mix is? It is THM gentle sweet mixed with molasses. I buy mine off of Amazon. A one-pound package gentle sweet with 2 T molasses. Very easy to do, and gives you a brown sugar taste that you miss so much!

For the non-healthy version, use 1/4 cup white sugar, and 1/4 cup brown sugar instead of the brown sugar mix.
