We have a problem!
Also, how awesome is that half grown Bernese Mountain Dog? 🙂
I think we are all in the same rocking boat. We all have that neckline that gapes and exposes goodies not meant for others to see if you know what I mean. I absolutely despise the feeling of knowing I have to hold my shirt to my chest in order to keep beautiful things private as I bend over to tend to Benny’s needs. He has constant needs, and necklines that are a little bit too big just don’t work when I don’t have two hands in order to hold it back.
My girls and I have small bone structure. Often we purchase blouses, shirts and even dresses that fit us everywhere but the massive neckline that we don’t fill out. Then we have the peek a boo problem of showing our goodies.
One day, as I was using elastic thread for some random article of clothing, a thought crossed my mind. What if I could secretly stitch this on the inside of necklines, pulling it against my chest, eliminating that gaping problem we have.
And so I took my elastic thread, threaded it to a needle with a large eye, (I think this may have been in a yarn package of needles?) and started. I was very pleased with the results. I only pulled the thread taught. Depending on the gape, you may want to pull it a little more. I went all around the neckline, starting and ending at the center back. I take the needle through whatever will hide it the best because I don’t want it visible at all. Everything is done discreetly, either inside the bias tape or at the stitching that is already there in order to hide, hide, hide the elastic thread stitches!
The elastic thread can be bought at basically any fabric store. I get mine at Joann Fabrics or online at Home-Sew.
Some shirts I have done I pulled a little too hard and the gathering is visible a little. I don’t like this, but it was a learning curve, and I was okay with it.
May I also say how amazing the JCPenney sales are right now? I went in last week and they have clearance racks at 60%-80% off. Besides these wonderful tags is a beautiful blue sign on select racks stating another 50% off the clearance rack price! This is when you shop offseason, ladies! I would much rather have been buying cozy winter sweaters, but when summer t-shirts are under 2.00, you better get with the program! I paid under 4.00 for this shirt. I should have kept the receipt so I have an exact price, but I didn’t, so under 4.00, it is!
