Good Morning!
Today I will be showing my secret to whipping out fresh, homemade dinner rolls for spur of the moment visitors. This secret has been a lifesaver for me on many occasions, and a little misleading, too. Not intentionally, but still, it leads even me to believe I am eating a made by scratch dinner roll! All you do is keep a package of Rhodes frozen bake n serve dough balls in your freezer. When that unexpected guest pops in, at least you have fresh baked goods on your side.
First, find that elusive cupcake pan. Mine is all the way in the back of my cupboard because I don’t use it much. And so the thought of tunneling my way into the crevices of dark, savvy corners of my cupboard is always a tad bit daunting. Nevertheless, it is worth the heroic efforts when you bite into the buttery dinner roll.
Next, spray that cupcake pan with olive oil spray, or whatever you may have. If you have no spray, take a plastic sandwich baggie and dip it into the Crisco tub and shmear that stuff all over each cup.
Now the fun part! Take two dinner rolls and place them inside each cup. This will allow them to be pulled apart evenly when you are ready to eat them. Now throw a towel over them and let them thaw. Thaw. That’s it. I have found that if I let them thaw AND rise, they spill over and they don’t look pretty. You can tell when they are thawed by gently punching them with your finger. So just let them thaw, then place in a preheated 350 degrees oven. Bake for 20 minutes or until the bottoms are brown when you tip them out to check on their color. Once they are out, take a pastry brush and brush every single top with butter. That’s it! So easy, yet so delicious. The aroma itself is enough to make every guest in your house a happy camper. Yum! Enjoy your fresh homemade dinner roll to the fullest!
Hint: For Sunday lunch guests, I put mine inside the sprayed pans just before I leave for church. Then I cover them with a towel and place them in the fridge. When we come home, they are thawed, and I put them in the oven. There is something homey, warm, and inviting about smelling freshly baked bread. It is sure to make the atmosphere a pleasant one, and it makes it appear like you worked like crazy, when you barely lifted a finger. The hardest part of the whole deal is digging for the cupcake pan! Happy dinner roll baking everyone!
